Why LokMail?

Email is not private. Using it is like sending a postcard, but worse, since email gets copied and saved by the computers that pass it around the net in route to you, before delivering it to your in box. It can end up existing on several computers without you knowing it--in plain text-- for anyone to read, whether it was intended for them or not.

Web-based email is especially NOT SECURE. According to an ABC report published on 8/30/99, "anyone on the Internet can access (Microsoft's MSN Hotmail) email accounts." Hotmail isn't the only one with problems. All the famous brand web-based email services, including Yahoo! Mail and POP email clients such as Outlook Express and Eudora, have experienced security breaches during the past year. There have been recent reports of the total lack of security and access control to several "famous brand" web-based email services, where strangers gained access to users' email accounts and used them maliciously. Many of these web-based email services cache your messages on the local computer allowing others to read your messages from the browser cache files long after you have gone.

LokMail uses patent-pending secure methods to build military-strength security into an easy to use web-based service. LokMail uses PGP to encrypt and digitally sign messages, to assure that only the intended recipient can read it, and that they can be sure that it came from you (as long as you guard your passphrase with your life!).

Encrypted messages on the LokMail server are decrypted and sent to your browser over a 128 bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encrypted connection, as "live, for your eyes only" text. Clear-text is never saved as a file anywhere, nor is it cached by the browser cache on your computer. When you are finished reading a message, it is gone, and exists only in encrypted form on the LokMail server. Deleting the message from the server "shreds" the file and makes it totally unrecoverable.
LokMail is totally safe and portable. You may use LokMail from any (128 bit SSL compatible is strongly recommended) popular web browser. LokMail is compatible with versions 5.x and 6.x of PGP, with DSS/DH/DSA keys. RSA support will be available in a future release and with advanced accounts, enabling interoperability with all versions of PGP.

LokMail does not use cookies.
