LokMail Privacy Policy:
Your email is your email, period. Just because it is sitting on our
servers does not change that fact. When you use LokMail to PGP encrypt
your email, it's as if you had downloaded and installed PGP onto your
desktop machine and encrypted your message locally. In essence, LokMail
is as secure as PGP.
Your PGP keys are yours and yours alone as well. When a new key
is generated, we neither escrow a copy to ourselves nor track a
copy of your passphrase. Without the passphrase or an escrowed key,
nobody except you can read your PGP encrypted email without performing a
cryptographic attack. Even if a LokMail server is physically compromised
(eg: stolen), it would still take a cryptographic attack to read the
encrypted emails on that server.
At the same time, LokMail makes neither any explicit nor implied warranty
on the services that we provide. For no reason will LokMail be liable
for any damages of any kind due to the use of our services. We believe
that using our system is as cryptographically as strong as using PGP on
your local machine, only easier. However, if for some reason your email
is compromised, Lokmail will not be liable for any damages of any kind
that result from the compromise.
LokMail does not enable cookies and does
not collect personally identifiable
information at our general web site, nor
does the LokMail service require
cookies.
Subscribers to LokMail are asked to
submit contact information in order to
set up their accounts. Our paid
subscribers submit credit card
information and their contact
information for billing purposes. This
information is kept confidential and is
not sold, rented or linked to other
databases.
Subscribers may elect to provide general demographic information and
advertising preferences which may be provided to advertisers who sponsor
the free LokMail service. The information provided is at the discretion of
the subscriber, who may also elect not to specify preferences that aid in
targeted advertising, instead choosing general, non-target advertising.
No personal information or email addresses of LokMail subscribers
are ever provided or made available to advertisers, other sponsors,
or third parties.
Subscribers may elect to join our mailing list or discussion forums to
receive updates and information regarding LokMail services, or relevant
issues related to their online privacy. LokMail does not sell, rent
or share our mailing list. We also intend to challenge any subpoena or
other legal process seeking access to our mailing list. We do not link
to other databases.
